Mornin’ Cats and Kittens!

November 26, 2014 at 5:40 am (By Ron)

It’s 4:30AM and I can’t sleep….and Karen has been up for half an hour already.  It’s the Day before Thanksgiving …. is that Green Wednesday?  Whatever did happen to Mauve Monday?  or Ecru Shrove Tuesday?

Who here in the Fortress of Ambiance is having a NON traditional holiday?  Sushi?  Lasagna? Cajun Popcorn? Just curious…

What do you do when you can’t sleep?  Something unusual?  Do you just give up and wake up and do something?

Folks are already gone around here…Is anyone traveling?

Many people I know kind of tie Thanksgiving and Christmas together in some fashion.  Some go to one parents family for one holiday, and the other for the other.  I have several friends that work one holiday but not both!

My Occupational Therapist has just had a beautiful baby and shared sweet pics with me…no posting though, unless she says OK.

Die Hard is usually my Christmas movie…but Thanksgiving….hmmm…do you have a Turkey Day Film?

At any rate…Enjoy your holiday, eat too much, maybe watch football, maybe do lots of snoozing….it’s good to have traditions!

Your Ambient Friend,

Ron

    Reading Ellroy, Ron?

And in answer to the questions:

No. Lost over the South Atlantic. Died in a bank robbery in the San Joaquin Valley.

Not me. No. No. No. Like all of those, but Thanksgiving is traditional, though this time we’re putting in less effort. Or rather, Kim is, at my insistence.

I just don’t go to bed. Read, surf the internet, plot the overthrow of the government, so nothing unusual. The third is irrelevant since I don’t go to bed.

No travel. Since Kim and I moved in together, Thanksgiving has been OUR holiday – people can come to us, but we don’t travel. At first it was because we were in college and it’s a stupid time to travel so close to the end of the semester, but later purely as tradition. And we like it this way.

No traditional film, though we do watch the two traditional holiday specials: A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and, of course, THAT EPISODE of THAT SHOW. “Oh my God, they’re turkeys!”

And of course, I try to make a point of watching football. I’ll never forget that Dolphins-Cowboys game when Leon Lett blew that blocked field goal!

Watched “Scent Of A Woman” this year — for its Thanksgiving dinner scene.

Just had the delight of showing Holiday Inn (via Amazon streaming video) to my parents, who had never seen it — it was made the year they got married!

BTW, White Christmas was written by Berlin during the production of Top Hat for Fred and Ginger, but their main director Mark Sandrich didn’t like it.

And who winds up directing Holiday Inn for Paramount? Yep….Mark Sandrich. Probably (outside of the F&G movies) what he is most remembered for. That and being the father of Jay Sandrich who directed all (I think) the episodes of Mary Tyler Moore in the ’70’s.
