Ok, so we’ve established that the Monty Python woman, Elvira, and Christine O’Donnell are not witches. Anybody else we can eliminate off the list?

Since I think it’s fair to say that no self-respecting witch would dress up as a cheerleader, perhaps Michelle Malkin could be eliminated….?

I’d offer Sarah Palin. Other than her, I know of none.

I’ve been told by one of her descendants that Rebeca Nourse was, in fact, a witch. But that’s a perk of living in New England: You get to talk to relatives of historical characters. Sometimes they tell you things history books omit.

A witch lived at the end of our street in the 17th century. House is still there, much altered. She kept an inn and stage stop on the Middlesex Turnpike of the day

She was accounted a witch because she didn’t suffer from fever ‘n ague (aka malaria). The house was hard by low, swampy ground, where t’was thought gross and( impure vapours caus’d an imbalance of humours, entailing thus the Dstemper. Anyone proof against it must be, at the very least, a practitioner of black & obscure Arts, if not a consort of a familiar & diabolical Spirit.

Off to read “Wonders of the Invisible World” once more in honour of Halloween.
