It might be more to the point to simply accept that no security system will ever be perfect.
Dump all of the pointless measures which currently make air travel an extra hassle (which is most of them). Certainly anybody who devotes a minutes thought to it can think of a way to circumvent the current checks and get a weapon onto a plane.
Then we could devote the resources currently wasted on pseudo-security theater to pursuing more (although even those savings won’t fund investigating everything) of the vague leads that DHS is deluged with. It might not be as effective a way to demonstrate to the taxpayers that “steps have been taken.” But it would do more good at really making the nation and travelers safer.
The arbitrary stupidity of the three-ounce fluid restriction gets me every time. Is there a person alive who believes that this is protecting anyone from anything? I hope the security guards are enjoying all the discarded Evian and shampoo.
